Our history is gone to the far of 1978 gathering mainly to save free education and to give a voice to matters of poor people who are contributed to offer free education in Sri Lanka.
As the first campaign of us was against the lost of rice ration that was offered by government to poor people and first conveyer of the Inter University Students’ Federation, Comrade Shantha Bandara was given the leadership for it.
Then in the period of 1981 “Dawala Pthrikawa” was carried by Sri Lanka government to reduce provisions for the education. With the leadership of Inter University Student’ Federation, Sri Lanka parliament was surrounded by university students and government was crashed to that campaign with army. But the courage and strength of the Sri Lankan students’ campaign, government was defeated and “Dawala Pathrikawa” was cancelled by the government infront of the strength of Sri Lankan Students’ Campaign.
Then in the period that is prohibited May Day for laborers when all of the campaigns were sleepy, Sri Lankan students campaign was given the leadership with the implementation of Inter University Students’ Federation to wake up them and call to this unjust issue.
In the period of 1984 students’ unions and Inter University Students’ Federation was prohibited by the government in unjust way and infront of the courage, strength and voice students’ campaign could not be destroyed to any other power.
With the political issues of this period, troubles were come to this campaign and any power could not destroy this campaign that is grown with the tears, bloods and sacrificing life for free education and Sri Lankan Students’ Campaign.
Then the campaign againsting Northern Colombo Private Medical College was engaged destroying free education in Sri Lanka making the education as commodity and Sri Lankan Students’ Campaign could save free education with the implementation of Inter University Students’ Federation. In this campaign several conveyers like of the Inter University Students’ Federation Comrade Venura Edirisinghe, Comrade Nimal Balasooriya and Comrade Athula Senarathne and many students in Sri Lanka Universities were killed by Sri Lankan government. But the way of Inter University Students’ Federation could not reverse back to any gigantic forces.
Finally Northern Colombo Private Medical College was changed as the Faculty of Medicine in University of Kelaniya infront of the courage, strength and voice of the Sri Lankan Students’ Campaign with the implementation of Inter University Students’ Federation.
Prohibited students’ union and Inter University Students’ Federation also won again due to the implementation of the Sri Lankan Students’ Campaign and late conveyer of the Inter University Students’ Federation, Comrade Venura Edirisinghe (Faculty of Medicine-University of Colombo), Comrade S.M. Nishmi(Faculty of Engineering-University of Peradeniya), Comrade K.T. Nimalsiri (Faculty of Science-University of Ruhuna) had taken the leadership for that and they were participated for the discussion covering their faces and heads with Minister of Education, A.C.S. Hameed.
Finally students union and Inter University Students’ Federation was accepted by the government as the representation of students.
With coming up of Education Privatizing, Inter University Students Federation was taken implementation to defeat these proposals saving education is the right of all. Defeating Thara- Hareld Proposals of World Bank and Jayathilake Committee reports are examples to that.
We believe that we have social responsible as the persons who are studying by public money. So in any moment that the community needs our services in any matter to them we were infront of it. In our past history, with the destroying of the rice ration and time that prohibit may day is proved that.
In the recent history, it is well proved by the implementation for the activities and support services of us in the cases of terrorism attack to boundary hamlets, Floods and Tsunami disasters.
So our strength, determination, courage and scarifying is performed from our history and in any with our vision as Sri Lankan Students’ Campaign, we are continued our task
